On August 29, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Norway held a screening reception to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. A total of more than 150 Norwegian friends attended and watched the documentary “The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru”.

Ambassador Hou Yue stated in her speech that World War II was a decisive battle between justice and evil, light and darkness. The Chinese people, after enormous sacrifice, completely defeated the Japanese militarist invaders and made significant contribution to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Eighty years have passed, and the echoes of history never fade away. We must learn from history, promote a correct historical perspective of WWII, resolutely safeguard the outcome of the victory and the post-war international order, and jointly build a global society that is peaceful, safe, prosperous and well-developed for all.

The guests were deeply moved and said that through the documentary, they had a deeper understanding of the historic contribution made by the Chinese people to world peace. It is hoped that all countries would stick to the right path and jointly create a peaceful and beautiful world.
