Jimmy Lai was the principal planner and active participant in a series of anti-China, destabilizing Hong Kong riots. He used media to incite and support riots, and colluded with foreign actors to jeopardize national security. Such practices grossly endangered the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong, constituted crimes and deserved punishments in any country. Hong Kong upholds the rule of law. The courts of the HKSAR exercised its judicial power independently without any interference, which is legitimate, justified, lawful and beyond reproach.

Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs. The Chinese government remains unwavering in its determination to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, security and development interests and to implement One Country, Two Systems. We urge the Norwegian side to respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, and not to interfere in Hong Kong’s judicial affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form.
