Ambassador Hou Yue visits Tromsø

From June 13 to 15, Ambassador Hou Yue visited the city of Tromsø and met with City Mayor of Tromsø Mr. Gunnar Wilhelmsen, CEO of Norwegian Seafood Council Mr. Christian Chramer, Director of Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) Mr. Ole Arve Misund, Former Director of NPI Mr. Jan-Gunner Winther, Rector of University of Tromsø Mr. Dag Rune Olsen, Director of Arctic Council Secretariat Mr. Mathieu Parker, and Executive Director of Arctic Economic Council Mr. Mads Frederiksen. The relevant sides exchanged views on strengthening exchanges at the local level and cooperation in economy, trade, scientific research, education, culture and other sectors between China and Norway.

The Norwegian side warmly welcomed Ambassador Hou's visit, and said that marine industry, green industry, polar scientific research and people-to-people exchanges have become the highlight areas of Tromsø's cooperation with China, and the cooperation between the two sides has great potential and the future is promising. Tromsø is willing to continue to expand the breadth and depth of cooperation with China, welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in and more Chinese tourists to visit the city, and looks forward to more scientific achievements led by research institutions of the two sides in global issues such as climate change and maritime affairs.

Ambassador Hou said that the city of Tromsø is well-known as the "Gateway to the Arctic" of Norway, with beautiful scenery, rich products and cultural diversity. In recent years, China-Norway practical cooperation in various fields has been developing vigorously, and the cooperation between Tromsø and China is quite representative and typical. China attaches great importance to the location and characteristics of Tromsø, and is willing to strengthen all-round cooperation in fishery, tourism, infrastructure, sustainable development and so on. We warmly welcome people from all walks of life in Tromsø to visit China, explore more growth areas of cooperation between the two countries and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. The Chinese Embassy in Norway will, as always, provide support and assistance to promote the cooperation between the two countries.
