On April 10, 2017, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Norway was one of the first Western countries to recognize the People's Republic of China, and also one of the first European countries to acknowledge China's market economy status. Since the establishment of China-Norway diplomatic relations 63 years ago, friendship and cooperation have always been the mainstream in bilateral relations. I appreciate Mrs. Prime Minister and the Norwegian government's active efforts in achieving the normalization of bilateral relations. It is believed that as long as the two sides adhere to the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, accommodate and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, China-Norway relations and bilateral practical cooperation will embrace broad prospects. The sustained, healthy and stable development of China-Norway relations not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, but also is of realistic significance in pushing forward the establishment of a new model of international relations with cooperation and win-win results as the core.

Xi Jinping stressed that both sides should well grasp the development direction of China-Norway relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and constantly elevate bilateral relations to new stages. The two sides should enhance political mutual trust, strengthen high-level exchanges, well make prospective and strategic plans for the development of bilateral relations, intensify personnel exchanges at all levels, and maintain coordination on major international and regional issues. Both sides should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and make use of high economic complementarity and profound cooperation basis to mainly promote bilateral cooperation in advantageous fields. As a founding member of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Norway actively responses to China's "Belt and Road" initiative. The two sides could cooperate within in the "Belt and Road" framework, and jointly propel the connectivity and common development in Eurasia. China is willing to, together with Norway, deepen cooperation in Arctic scientific research, resource development, local environmental protection and other fields, safeguard and promote the stable and sustainable development in the Arctic region. It is hoped that Norway could play a more active role in pushing forward China-Northern Europe cooperation. People-to-people and cultural exchanges should be enriched. As the host of 2022 Winter Olympic Games, China is ready to strengthen exchanges with Norway in winter sports and share experience in holding winter sports events. The competent departments of the two sides should create more convenient conditions to facilitate the two peoples' travel to the other country.

Erna Solberg expressed that she was very pleased to visit China once again. She deeply admired China's great development achievements. The joint statement on the normalization of bilateral relations announced last December provides an important guarantee for recovering and developing bilateral relations. Norway will abide by this statement and adhere to one-China policy. Attaching great importance to China's core interests and major concerns, Norway will well safeguard the political foundation of the development of bilateral relations through practical actions. Norway stands ready to intensify bilateral high-level exchanges with China, and push forward the development of bilateral relations from a new starting point. Norway supports the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by China, and is willing to expand bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields including the Arctic affairs, and intensify communication and coordination in international affairs.

Leaders of the two countries also exchanged views on international situation and issues of common concern.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
