On September 26, the "Norway China Polar Research Symposium" jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Norway, the Norwegian Polar Institute, the University of Tromsø, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuhan University was successfully held in the Arctic city of Tromsø. Chinese Ambassador to Norway Ms. Hou Yue, Director of the Norwegian Polar Institute Professor Camilla Brekke, Mayor of Tromsø Mr. Gunnar Wilhelmsen and Rector of the University of Tromsø Dag Rune Olsen attended the event and delivered speeches. More than 60 Chinese and Norwegian scientists, students and scholars were present at the symposium.

Ambassador Hou Yue said that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Norway and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China’s arctic research station, scholars from the two countries gathered in the "Northern Capital" to review the achievements over the years and jointly explore the prospects of future cooperation, which is of great significance. China adheres to the basic principles of "respect, cooperation, win-win results and sustainability" in participating in Arctic affairs, and is committed to safeguarding the common interests of the international community in the Arctic, and promoting sustainable development of the Arctic. It is expected that the two sides will continue the good momentum of cooperation and inject new impetus into the practical cooperation between China and Norway.

Representatives from the Norwegian side said that Norway and China have broad consensus and solid basis for cooperation in promoting sustainable development, protecting Arctic environment, and strengthening polar research. Addressing global challenges such as climate change requires close cooperation among countries including Norway and China. They hope that scientists from the two countries will strengthen exchanges and mutual learning at both bilateral and multilateral levels and contribute to achieving the common goal of sustainable development.
