This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Celebrating the Army Day in this particular year is of special significance. From the day of its birth on August 1, 1927, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the PLA, always staying true to its original aspiration and mission, has fought bravely, through tremendous sacrifice and devotion, to advance the dignity, prosperity and strength of the Chinese people, and has made important contributions to world peace and development.

China's armed forces have always been a great wall of steel that safeguards national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Today, when the Chinese people enjoy happiness and tranquility, the men and women of the People's Liberation Army are guarding the motherland's thousands of miles of frontiers and the vast sea and sky, and protecting the peace and prosperity of every household. The people's sense of security comes from our strong national defense and from the powerful people's army. The PLA has always been devoted to serving the people, sharing a common fate with the people with their hearts closely linked together. On the special battlefield of fighting the epidemic, the PLA has been fully committed to protecting the lives and health of the people. On the front line of emergency rescue and disaster relief, the PLA has been doing its utmost to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. Some even sacrificed their lives while trying so hard to save others. In the country's poverty alleviation campaign, the PLA focuses on old revolutionary base areas, ethnic minority areas, border areas, and contiguous poverty-stricken areas. Thanks to their targeted assistance, 4,100 impoverished villages and 924,000 impoverished people were lifted out of poverty.

China's armed forces have always been a staunch force for maintaining world peace and stability and serving to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The Chinese military adheres to a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept, continues to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind with practical actions, provides international public security products to the international community, and benefits the people of all countries in various ways. China is the country with the largest number of peacekeeping forces among the permanent members of the UN Security Council. As the largest developing country, China has become the second biggest contributor to the United Nations regular budget and peacekeeping, providing 15.21% of assessed contributions to UN Peacekeeping operations. The PLA Navy has sent 38 escort formations to the Gulf of Aden for 13 consecutive years, performing more than 1,400 escort missions to maintain the safety of international waterways. In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, the PLA has actively carried out international cooperation with multiple defense agencies and militaries. It has provided assistance to dozens of countries by dispatching teams of medical experts and providing medical materials, so as to defeat the pandemic at an early date and promote the building of a global community of health for all.

China unswervingly pursues a defensive national defense policy, never seeks hegemony, expansion or sphere of influence. China's development is an opportunity for the world and does not pose a threat to any country. China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law. Since the founding of People's Republic of China, we have never provoked a war or conflict, and have never occupied an inch of others' land. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, multilateralism has been the core concept of the current international system and order, and the better multilateralism is practiced, the faster humanity's common problems will be resolved. Recently, some countries have clung to the Cold War mentality and the concept of zero-sum game, and under the guise of "multilateralism", they have pieced together "small circles" to engage in ideological confrontation. Such pseudo-multilateralism will not only fail to gather the joint forces of all mankind to cope with common challenges, but will push the world into division or even confrontation. China pursues the true multilateralism, continues to be a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order, working with all parties to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
