Notice on the Adjustment of Requirements for Chinese Visa Application (Updated in January, 2023)

To orderly resume personnel exchanges between China and Norway, as of Jan 8, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Norway will adjust requirements for the Chinese visa application. For visa categories available for application and documents needed, please see the form below.

Applicants can book an appointment to submit your application at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Oslo through its website (https://www.visaforchina.cn/OSL2_EN/). Regular processing will take 4 working days and express processing will take 3 working days. Please note that visa officers may request an applicant to provide additional supporting documents or have an interview with the applicant when needed. In such cases, the processing time may be extended.

Description of Visa

Documents

C

Issued to foreign crew members for international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China;

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

F

Issued to those who intend to go to China for non-commercial activities, e.g., academic and  cultural activities.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of the invitation letter issued by an inviting institution in China including information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number etc.), information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited and financial source for expenditures), information on the institution (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative);

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

G

Issued to those who intend to transit through China.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. An onward air (train or ship) ticket with confirmed date and seat to the destination country or region;

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

M

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of the invitation letter issued by an inviting company in China including information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number etc.), information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited and financial source for expenditures), information on the inviting company (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative);

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

Q1

Issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in China and whose intended duration of stay in China is more than 180 days. 

"Family members" refers to spouse, parents, parents-in-law, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law,  brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons and granddaughters.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of an invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen who lives in China with a Chinese permanent residence permit. It must include information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc.), information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, arrival and departure dates and financial source for expenditures), information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, Chinese ID number or foreign passport number, signature, etc.);

4. Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the inviting individual;

5. Original and photocopy of documents proving the relationship between the applicant and inviting individual, including marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notary public in China;

6. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

Q2

Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in China and whose intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of an invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen who lives in China with a Chinese permanent residence permit. It must include information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc.), information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, arrival and departure dates and financial source for expenditures), information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, Chinese ID number or foreign passport number, signature, etc.) and relationship with the applicant;

4. Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the inviting individual;

5. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

R

Issued to high-level talents or those whose skills are urgently needed in China.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of the Confirmation Letter for High Level Foreign Talents issued by State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs or other eligible certification.

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

S1

Issued to family members of foreigners working or studying in China and whose intended duration of stay in China is more than 180 days.

"Family members" refers to spouse, parents, parents-in-law, sons or daughters under the age of 18.

 

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of an invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen who lives in China with a Chinese permanent residence permit. It must include information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc.), information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, arrival and departure dates and financial source for expenditures), information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, Chinese ID number or foreign passport number, signature, etc.);

4. Photocopy of passport and residence permit or visa of the inviting individual;

5. Original and photocopy of proof of relationship between the applicant and inviting individual, including marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by a notary public in Norway;

6. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

S2

Issued to family members of foreigners working or studying in China and whose intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

"Family members" refers to spouse, parents, parents-in-law, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law,  brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons and granddaughters.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Photocopy of an invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen who lives in China with a Chinese permanent residence permit. It must include information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc.), information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, arrival and departure dates and financial source for expenditures), information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, Chinese ID number or foreign passport number, signature, etc.);

4. Photocopy of passport and residence permit or visa of the inviting individual;

5. Original and photocopy of proof of relationship between the applicant and inviting individual, including marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by a notary public in Norway;

6. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

X1

Issued to those who go to China for long-term study (more than 180 days).

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Original and photocopy of the JW201/JW202 Form;

4. Original and photocopy of the Admission Notice;

5. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

X2

Issued to those who go to China for short-term study (no more than 180 days).

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. Original and photocopy of the JW201/JW202 Form (if applicable);

4. Original and photocopy of the Admission Notice;

5. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

Z

Issued to those who intend to work in China.

1. A completed Application Form with a recently-taken color photo (bare-head and full face) glued to or stapled on the form;

2. Passport and a photocopy of the information page. (The passport shall be valid for more than 6 months and have at least one blank visa page.);

3. One of the following documents:

a) Photocopy of the Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit in the People's Republic of China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts;

b) Photocopy of the Registration Certificate of Resident Representative Offices of Enterprises of Foreign Countries (Regions) in China issued by the market regulation administration;

c) Original and photocopy of the Approval for Commercial Performances issued by authorities for cultural affairs, and Approval of Short-Term Employment For Foreigners Working in People's Republic of China (for performances less than 90 days);

d) Photocopy of the Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;

4. Other supporting documents required by the Embassy.

Note:

1.J1/J2 visa should refer to the requirements of the competent authority;

2.All applicants must submit a printout of the Application Form filled online (https://bio.visaforchina.org/OSL2_EN/) ;

3.Visa applications for tourism and medical treatment in China are temporarily not accepted.
