On April 20, 2024, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with transitional President of Gabon Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Gabon enjoy traditional friendship and the friendship between the two countries has grown stronger over time. Over the past 50 years, despite changes in the international situation, the two countries have always treated each other as equals and with mutual support, and bilateral relations have been constantly upgraded, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. Xi Jinping said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Gabon relations, and is ready to work with President Nguema to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries as a new starting point to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen bilateral practical cooperation, enrich the China-Gabon comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

Nguema said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the two countries have always treated each other with mutual trust and sincerity, bilateral relations have grown steadily and the mutually beneficial cooperation in the economic, social, military, and other fields has yielded fruitful outcomes. Gabon firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of China. Gabon is ready to work with China to promote the continuous consolidation and development of the Gabon-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to the benefit of the two peoples.
